Publication Charges

What is hybrid open access?

The hybrid open access model is a publication model in which authors of accepted articles are given with the choice for publication of their article. In Hybrid Model, the authors will have two options: to pay a publication charge to make their article open access OR not to pay the publication charge but the publisher retains the right to imposes embargo period for making the article open access.

What is the embargo period for the journal?

An embargo is a period during which the author may not make the final published version of their work public in any way, such as submitting it to an institutional or governmental repository or posting to a personal website. The Embargo period is calculated from the date the article has appeared on the journal website. However, posting of the author’s final version is not embargoed. Once the embargo period completes, the article will be made open access.

However, during embargo period the authors can

  • Republish the article (or a revised version of the article) in another book the author writes, edit, giving first publication credit to the journal. This applies only to books authored by authors or edit as a whole.
  • When only contributing to a chapter to a new work that someone else is working on, then that editor or publisher needs to obtain the permission from the journal
  • After the embargo period, the authors can post their article on own website or institution’s author repository, as long as they don’t offer it for sale or commercial distribution. Such requests should be directed to the publisher.

The embargo period of the journal is 12 months.

What is open access publication?

Traditionally, readers pay to access articles either through subscription or by paying fee each time they download article. With the escalation of journal subscription charges, libraries may subscribe fewer journals and hence this may limit range of articles available to readers. Open access model of publication allows all interested readers to view, download, print, and redistribute any article without a subscription which may enable far greater distribution of an author's work. Through open access model, the scientific community and the general public can unlimitedly and immediately access all content published in the journals for free as soon as it is published on the Internet.

Can APC be waived if the author cannot pay?

Waiver requests are considered before the manuscript has been submitted, and we routinely waive charges for authors from low-income countries and lower middle countries (based on the data by the World Bank which classifies the world’s economies based on estimates of gross national income (GNI) per capita for the previous year). Authors from these countries may, at the discretion of the Publisher, may be granted discounts or complete waivers based on the decision of the editorial committee.
